Meet the Team

Governing Body

The governing body plays an important role in the life of our school. Its main responsibility is to provide strategic leadership and ensure the school is well-run and focused on delivering the best possible education for every child. Governors help set the school’s vision and values, agree long-term goals, and make sure we are meeting legal and financial requirements. They work closely with the Headmistress and senior leaders, offering support and challenge to help the school continually improve. The governing body also oversees key policies and listens to the views of parents, staff, and the wider community. Together, they ensure our school remains a safe, inclusive, and inspiring place for learning.

At Sikh Heritage Girls School, the Chair of Governors also sits on the proprietary body and helps make sure school is safe, well-led, and providing the best possible education for every child. The Chair works closely with the Headmistress and governors to support the school’s vision, which is guided by the school’s core values and the teachings of Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji.

The Chair of Governors ensures that the school meets all requirements as set out by the Independent School Standards and Regulations, including financial and strategic oversight.

Governors are nominated to support the school in the following areas:

- Safeguarding

- Health and Safety

- Financial

- Teaching and Learning

Governors visit the school at least once every half term to deep dive into these areas and report back to the governing body with their findings.

Teaching:

Headmistress and DDSL – Divinder Kaur Ghundale

Our Headmistress is responsible for the day-to-day leadership and management of the school. She ensures that teaching and learning are of the highest quality, that pupils are safe and supported, and that the school runs smoothly and efficiently. The Headmistress is responsible for the creation, development and evaluation of the school’s curriculum, ensuring a careful blend of high academic achievement, pupil development, high expectations of behaviours and attitudes towards learning, as well as implementing a Sikh ethos in daily school life.

Her role includes implementing the school’s vision and values, leading and developing the staff team, managing resources, and driving continuous improvement in all areas of school life. The Headmistress works closely with the governing body to meet strategic goals and maintain high standards, while fostering a positive, inclusive environment where every child can thrive.

The Headmistress is the school’s Attendance Champion, as well as SEND Coordinator. She is responsible for any Looked After Children and is Deputy Designated Safeguarding Lead.

Year 3 & 4 Class Teacher – Claire Round-Turner (Assistant Headmistress)

Year 2 Class Teacher – Harkirat Kaur Brar

Year 1 Class Teacher – Pavneet Kaur Pnag

Our teachers are at the heart of everything we do. They are responsible for delivering high-quality lessons that inspire and challenge every child to achieve their best. Teachers plan and prepare engaging learning experiences, assess progress, and provide feedback to help pupils grow academically and personally. They also create a safe, supportive classroom environment where children feel valued and confident.

In addition to teaching, our teachers play a vital role in pastoral care, supporting pupils’ wellbeing and personal development. They build positive relationships, provide guidance, and ensure that every child feels happy, safe, and included.

Teachers also have an important responsibility for safeguarding. They are trained to identify and report any concerns about a child’s safety or welfare, follow school safeguarding procedures, and work closely with the Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL) to protect pupils. This commitment ensures that every child is cared for in a secure and nurturing environment.

Sports Coaches - Inspire Sports Academy

Our sports coaches play a key role in promoting physical health, teamwork, and confidence among pupils. They are responsible for planning and delivering high-quality sports and physical education sessions that develop skills, fitness, and a love of sport. Coaches ensure activities are safe, inclusive, and enjoyable for all students, regardless of ability.

Beyond teaching techniques and rules, sports coaches encourage positive attitudes, resilience, and respect—both on and off the field. They also help identify and nurture talent, support school teams in competitions, and work closely with teachers to integrate physical education into the wider curriculum.

Importantly, sports coaches have a duty of safeguarding and wellbeing, ensuring pupils are safe during all activities and following school policies to protect every child. Their goal is to inspire healthy lifestyles and foster a sense of achievement through sport.

Music – Slough Music Trust

Our music teacher is responsible for delivering engaging and inspiring music lessons that develop pupils’ creativity, confidence, and musical skills. She plans and teaches lessons that cover a range of musical concepts, from rhythm and melody to performance and composition, ensuring that every child has the opportunity to explore and enjoy music.

Violin is the core instrument taught at our school, and pupils receive dedicated instruction to develop their technique and musicality. In addition, we host regular music workshops, giving children the chance to experience and explore a variety of other instruments, broadening their musical horizons and fostering a lifelong love of music.

Support staff:

Our Chief Operating Officer (COO) oversees the operational side of the school, ensuring everything runs smoothly behind the scenes. This includes managing finance, facilities, human resources, compliance, and health and safety. The COO also serves as the Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL), taking responsibility for safeguarding and child protection across the school. This means they ensure that all pupils are safe, that staff follow safeguarding procedures, and that any concerns are dealt with promptly and appropriately.

By handling these essential functions, the COO allows our teaching staff to focus on what matters most: providing an outstanding education for every child. The COO also collaborates closely with the Headmistress and governing body to align operations with the school’s strategic vision.

Maintenance team

Our maintenance team plays a vital role in keeping the school safe, clean, and well-maintained. They are responsible for ensuring that all buildings, classrooms, and outdoor spaces are in excellent condition, carrying out repairs promptly, and performing regular checks to maintain health and safety standards. By taking care of the physical environment, the maintenance team helps create a space where learning can flourish.
