Our Motto

Born to Love. Live to Do.

Our motto expresses something fundamental about what we want our girls to understand about life.

Born to Love reflects the Sikh teaching that the Creator pervades creation. Love for the Creator is therefore connected to love for humanity, for the natural world and for the life around us. We want our girls to recognise the dignity of others, to care deeply and to understand that they are connected to something greater than themselves.

Live to Do turns that love into purposeful action. We want girls to be ambitious for what they can become: to work hard, develop their knowledge and talents, pursue excellence and build the confidence and capability to make a meaningful contribution to the world.

At SHGS, ambition is never only about personal success. Achievement matters because it increases what a person is able to give. We want our girls to use their education, opportunities and strengths to care, contribute, serve and improve the lives of others.

Born to Love. Live to Do. is therefore both a belief and a responsibility: to love widely, strive fully and make that love visible through the way we live.
