Every child has the right to feel safe, be heard and know who to turn to.

Safeguarding is everyone’s responsibility at Sikh Heritage Girls School. Our small-school environment means pupils are well known by staff, concerns can be noticed quickly and children have trusted adults around them who will listen and act.

Our approach is child-centred. We teach girls how to recognise when something does not feel right, how to seek help and why adults cannot keep secrets where a child may be at risk of harm. Safeguarding is woven through school life, including PSHE, RSE, online safety, pastoral support and staff practice.

Safeguarding Leadership

The Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL) is Mrs Inderjit Kaur Dhillon, Chief Operating Officer.

The current Deputy DSL and Safeguarding Governor are identified in our Safeguarding and Child Protection Policy and are displayed clearly around school so that pupils, staff and visitors know whom to approach.

All staff receive safeguarding training on induction and regular updates thereafter. In line with Keeping Children Safe in Education 2026, all staff read Part One in full and understand how to recognise and report concerns.

Our training and procedures cover areas including child-on-child abuse, online safety, sexual harassment and violence, neglect, exploitation, safer recruitment and concerns or allegations involving adults working with children.

Reporting a Concern

If you are worried about a child, please contact the school as soon as possible. You do not need to be certain that harm has occurred before raising a concern.

Concerns are recorded, shared and acted upon in accordance with our Safeguarding and Child Protection Policy and current statutory guidance. Where necessary, SHGS works with children’s social care, police, health services and other safeguarding partners.
