Our Vision

Guided by our Sikh faith and the teachings of Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji, we nurture our children to be proactive, ambitious and successful. They are equipped with essential skills to tackle the challenges of an ever-changing world. As an English and Punjabi bilingual school, we take pride in our children’s ability to study and express themselves fluently in both languages.

Our staff deliver thoughtfully planned lessons that ensure all children make excellent progress, with daily simran as a core part of our routine. Our exciting, enquiry-based curriculum sparks curiosity, fostering collaboration, independence, and a love for reading and further learning. It also offers opportunities for social and cultural enrichment, promoting global citizenship.

We are committed to creating progressive and altruistic ties with our local community and beyond, collaborating with schools and organizations worldwide. Our high expectations are reflected in our assessment data, which showcases our achievements and ambitions.

Our holistic approach ensures that our students are well-prepared to lead and inspire, fostering a lifelong love for learning and personal growth.

“We are an active school that encourages innovative teaching techniques: we learn outside the classroom as well as use traditional learning methods.”

Specific Aims of Sikh Heritage Girls School

Adapting to the Individual

At Sikh Heritage Girls School, we recognise and celebrate the unique strengths and needs of each pupil. Our small school size allows us to know every child personally, ensuring that their voice is heard and respected. We provide a nurturing environment where children and staff show courtesy and respect towards each other, both during learning and recreational activities.

Physical and Mental Wellbeing

We are committed to fostering both the physical and mental wellbeing of our students. Our holistic approach ensures that our students are well-prepared to lead and inspire, fostering a lifelong love for learning and personal growth. We see ourselves as an active school – where children are encouraged to use the lovely spaces the school has to offer. All children have access to weekly gymnastics, swimming and sports sessions.

Self-Respect and Aspiration

Guided by our Sikh faith and the teachings of Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji, we nurture our children to be proactive, ambitious, and successful. They are equipped with essential skills to tackle the challenges of an ever-changing world. Every member of the school community is encouraged, every day, to do their best and to support one another to try their best. We have high expectations of ourselves and one another and are pleased to see each other succeed.

Academic Outcomes

Children do not sit entrance tests to join us: our focus is on pupil progress so that every girl does the best she can during her primary school years. Children do not sit national assessments such as the Phonics Screening Assessment or SATs. We use low-stakes assessments and standardised Cornerstones Curriculum assessments, as well as NFER summative assessments to guide our teachers to evaluate and adapt planning to maximise pupil outcomes.

Whilst we do not have published data for our pupils, we are confident that our children make fantastic progress from their individual starting points.

Currently, 100% of our Year 1 pupils will have passed their Phonics Screening Assessment* – an achievement that the school is very proud of.

*Based on all Year 1 pupils doing the June 2024 Phonics Assessment paper in May 2025.

We proudly provide deep learning experiences that enable our children to be ready for the assessment practises of senior schools. In Year 4, children begin their journey to understanding the 11+ and similar entrance tests of senior schools.

Whilst we do not have published data for assessments, we use our internal assessment data carefully to inform our planning, address misconceptions and support children to deeper their understanding.

Confidence, Resilience, and Independence

We aim for our children to leave Sikh Heritage being more independent, lifelong learners who are confident risk-takers and respectful, aspirational members of the community. Our Sikh faith inspires us to be the best that we can be and to do the best for not just ourselves but for those around us. Some of our Year 3 pupils have taken part in public speaking competitions this year – as well as guests commenting on how confident our pupils are.

Respect and Tolerance

We ensure that the fundamental British Values are introduced, discussed, and lived out through the ethos and work of the school. All curriculum areas provide a vehicle for furthering understanding of these concepts, and, in particular, RE, SMSC, PSHE, Learning opportunities outside the classroom, and assemblies provide opportunities to deepen and develop understanding.

Promoting Best Practice

Our dedicated staff works tirelessly to support and guide our pupils in choosing paths that reflect their interests and talents. Our aim is to nurture pupils into independent, confident, well-rounded young people, prepared to transition smoothly to senior school.
