What Makes Our EYFS Different?
At Sikh Heritage Girls School, we have carefully designed an Early Years experience that reflects both our educational philosophy and our understanding of childhood. Whilst academic foundations are important, we believe children flourish when they feel secure, valued and inspired by the world around them. As a result, our EYFS provision balances purposeful teaching with meaningful opportunities for exploration, creativity and discovery.
From the moment children join our school, they become part of a close-knit community where relationships matter. Punjabi and English sit naturally alongside one another throughout school life, allowing children to develop confidence in both languages whilst strengthening their sense of identity and belonging. Daily opportunities for reflection and simran help children develop self-awareness and inner calm, whilst acts of seva encourage them to recognise that even the smallest actions can contribute positively to the community around them.
Children benefit from specialist music and sports teaching from their very first week at school, not because we expect every child to become a musician or an athlete, but because we believe every child deserves the opportunity to discover what brings her joy, confidence and a sense of achievement. Alongside this, Forest School, outdoor learning and exploratory play provide opportunities for children to take managed risks, solve problems, collaborate with others and develop resilience in authentic and meaningful ways.
Meaningful cross-age relationships help even our youngest children feel part of something bigger than themselves. Through shared experiences and the warmth of our school family, children quickly learn that they are known, valued and loved. These experiences help children develop not only knowledge and skills, but also confidence, resilience, curiosity and character.
